Northville Public Schools is excited to announce that all pre-K through grade 12 students will continue to receive free breakfast and lunch meals for the 2024-25 school year, regardless of their eligibility for free or reduced lunch. This initiative is part of the Michigan School Meals Program, funded by a $200 million appropriation in the fiscal year 2025 School Aid budget signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Michigan’s 1.4 million public school children will benefit from this program, which began in the 2023-24 school year. Last year, the program provided over 76.3 million breakfasts and 135.6 million lunches to students across the state.
The budget provides state reimbursement to schools for every breakfast and lunch served to Michigan’s public school students through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. This program helps alleviate financial burdens for Michigan families while eliminating the negative stigma associated with participating in school meal programs.
To ensure the smooth operation of this program, Northville Public Schools is actively seeking additional Food Service staff members to work in our kitchens. If you or someone you know is interested in joining our Food Service team, please contact our Food Service department at 248-344-3690.
All students that may qualify for free or reduced lunch should still fill out the annual Education Benefits Form (EBF) as they will receive additional benefits. You can find a link to the application in the parent portal or on the district's website under the Food Service tab. These forms are crucial for ensuring that local schools remain eligible for additional educational funding. Completed forms help districts access various benefits, including:
- Discounts on student fees for athletics and activities programs
- SAT, ACT, and AP test fee discounts
- College application fee discounts
- Discounted internet access services
- Federal, state, and local school funding for school budgets
- Summer EBT benefits
This unprecedented investment supports Goal 3 of Michigan’s Top 10 Strategic Education Plan to improve the health, safety, and wellness of all learners. The meals provided free of charge follow USDA nutrition guidelines.
