Northville High School’s baseball team has made history by winning its first state championship. In a thrilling game at Michigan State University's McLane Stadium, the Mustangs triumphed over top-ranked Brother Rice with a 2-1 victory.
The championship win marks a remarkable season for the Mustangs under the leadership of first-year Head Coach Dan Cimini. “This has been an amazing season,” Cimini shared. “From getting hired as Head Coach, meeting the team, and setting my goals for them, we laid the groundwork for a successful season. Our spring training at IMG Academy was the start of something special, built on trust and collective effort from parents, players, and coaches.”
The Mustangs’ journey to the championship was filled with significant achievements. They secured the KLAA Championship, winning both the league and division, with a division record of 12-2 and an overall record of 30-7. They dominated rivals Novi in three encounters. Their postseason run included victories over Catholic Central and Novi in the district championships, triumphs over Lakeland and Churchill in the regionals, and a quarterfinal win that led them to the Final Four at Michigan State University, where they defeated Okemos.
The team’s standout player, senior Dante Nori, was named the 2024 Mr. Baseball award winner by the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association. The announcement was made during the MHSBCA’s All-Star game day at Comerica Park. Nori, who is committed to play for Mississippi State, is projected as a potential late-first or early-second-round pick in the upcoming MLB Draft.
