Amerman Elementary School was named as one of the 2019 National Blue Ribbon schools by the U.S. Department of Education on September 26, 2019.
The Northville Public Schools elementary school was among 362 schools nationwide recognized as National Blue Ribbon schools for 2019. The recognition is based on the school’s high performance as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests. Amerman is among the 13 Michigan schools and 2 Wayne County Schools being recognized this year.
The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Building on a long-standing history of academic excellence, Amerman staff, together with students and families, embarked on a journey to grow and deepen its culture of learning and leadership through a more intentional focus on school culture, student agency, and working collectively toward a shared vision.
In March 2019, Amerman achieved Lighthouse school status under the International Leader in Me program, a significant benchmark that recognizes outstanding results in school and student outcomes. Amerman continues to focus on its journey toward maximizing the potential of each and every learner.
“We are proud of the work of our teachers, staff members, students and families at Amerman Elementary for their work to foster a culture of learning and leadership,” said Superintendent Mary Kay Gallagher. “Across Northville Public Schools, we are committed to continuing our journey to open a World of Possibilities for and with each and every learner. This national recognition showcases the outstanding outcomes that can result from bringing students, teachers, parents and families together with a collective focus on learning and unleashing the leadership capacity and potential within every learner.”
Now in its 37th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed recognition on more than 9,000 schools. On November 14 and 15, representatives from Northville Public Schools and Amerman Elementary School will join the Department of Education at an awards ceremony celebrating honorees in Washington, D.C.
