Northville First Responders Visit for "March is Reading Month"

A Northville first responder, Lt. McAllister, sits in a classroom reading the book "Sprinkles the Fire Dog" to elementary students during March is Reading Month. Two young students watch intently as he reads.
Anthony Writer

This past week, Northville elementary students received a special visit from the Northville Police Department and Northville Fire Department. As part of our annual March is Reading Month activities, local first responders stepped into the classroom to share their favorite stories and engage with our youngest learners. After finishing their stories, our guest readers opened the floor to the students, who had the opportunity to ask questions about life as a first responder.

Topics of discussion included:

  • Daily Responsibilities: What a typical day looks like at the station or on patrol.

  • Safety Gear: How the equipment works and why it is important for staying safe on the job.

Strengthening Community Bonds Beyond the pages of the books, these visits help build positive relationships between students and first responders. By interacting in a familiar classroom setting and engaging in open dialogue, students gained a better understanding of the people who serve the Northville community every day.
